Complex reconstructive techniques

Complex reconstructive surgical techniques are required after wide resection of the mandible or maxilla, in order to obtain morphological and functional rehabilitation of the jaws.

UPPER JAW

Reconstruction after resection for tumors can be performed with the temporal muscle flap. Then, bone grafts from iliac crest or calvaria fixed with screws and plates can be inserted. In other cases microsurgical techniques can carried out with free flaps taken from fibula or tibia. After 8 or 12 months implant insertion and prohstetic rehabilitation will follow.

MANDIBLE

Wide loss of bone or soft tissues of the mandibular region can be repaired with osteomyocutaneous flaps or free flaps using tibia, iliac crest, scapula, in which is possible immediate positioning of implants.

After the revascularization of the grafted bone the prosthetic rehabilitation is reliable using traditional techniques of osseointegrated implants.

Microvascular surgery has indication in many surgical fields. For plastic and reconstructive surgery it serves as a method to transplant composite tissues by the anastomosis of vessels and nerves.
